Local Government

The State of Nebraska classifies Deshler as a second-class city based on the population count. The Mayor and four council members are elected at large for four-year terms. Chamber of Commerce

Business meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month. The Chamber President and various committees organize special events and community promotions. For more information call (402) 365-4260; fax (402)365-4415 www.gpcom.net/Deshler.

 

Senior Center

Deshler Senior Center is located at 4th and Hebron Streets. The center is open Monday thru Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Services available from the Senior Center include congregate and home-delivered meals, transportation, birthday and holiday parties, telephone reassurance, referrals for in-home health services, monthly newsletter, informational and recreational activities, and volunteer opportunities. The Senior Center will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary in October of 2008. Look for various monthly related activities beginning in January 2008. Fire Protection

Deshler is served by a 25-member volunteer fire department. The fire department can be contacted at (402) 365-4260 or 911, in case of emergencies.

 

Law Enforcement

Thayer County Law Enforcement, located in Hebron, provides patrol and protection services. The crime rate in Thayer County is among the lowest in the nation. The Thayer County Sheriff can be contacted at (402) 768-6139 or 911 for emergencies.

 

Housing

Deshler Housing Authority provides low-cost and/or retirement housing facilities including Sunset Manor, a 20-unit retirement complex and Parkview Heights, a 10-unit low income facility. For more information, call the Deshler Housing Authority at (402) 365-7288 or email: deshlerha@gpcom.net.

 

Library

Deshler Public Library, containing over 10,000 volumes, has a story hour, summer reading program, service to shut-ins and school visits. Hours are 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm on weekdays, Wednesday evening, and Saturday mornings. For more information, call (402) 365-4107 or email: depulio1@gpcom.net.

 

Thayer County Economic Development Alliance

The Thayer County Economic Development Alliance, an organization that helps promote both the Deshler Community and Business area and surrounding communities of Thayer County, has been in existence since 2001. Thayer County Museum

The Thayer County Museum is located in Belvidere on Highway 81, 5 miles north of Hebron. The Museum has an area just for memorabilia from the Deshler area. Hebron Airport / Blue Valley Flying Club

An airport and pilot services are available in Hebron which is located 8 miles east of Deshler on Highway 136. The airport has a 3600x60 feet concrete runway available for small air craft.
